Martine Kilday (LOLA YOGA)

Martine Kilday (LOLA YOGA)

In less than nine months, I will be 50 years old, yet I can move with the lightness and agility of a cat. I am a mother of 6, grandmother, midwife, counsellor and yoga teacher. A childhood steeped in trauma manifested in a body that held pain, breathed poorly and was terribly self conscious. At 30 I commenced a practice in Ashtanga yoga and a cathartic process of discipline and body awareness began. I ventured further into a Hatha practice whereby deep reflection and self awareness grew. These last few years I craved the wildness and freedom of movement and became certified as a Vinyasa teacher, simultaneously committing to a daily practice. Very recently I took over the lease of the studio at The Fremantle Fibonacci Centre and at present there are five teachers offering varied styles of yoga and we are growing a yoga community. I believe deeply in the rehabilitative properties of yoga and breath work; spiritually, emotionally and physically. When you fall in love with yoga, you fall in love with yourself and for some of us this is for the first time. You become your own teacher and healer.
